a relentless quest to expose the
cheapest flights
15 Sep 2008. We took a one-way trip on the number 19 bus from our Hotel Ducale in Favaro Veneto to Venice's Piazzale Roma. The Piazzale Roma is packed with buses and people in transit, a rather unimpressive entrance to Venice's marvels.
There's nothing stopping you from walking everywhere, but we were carrying heavy bags so opted for the vaporetti (water-bus).
The view of water lapping up to old buildings is so unusual that many people quickly had their cameras out. Here's a clickie of the Banco San Marco building.
Here's the Santa Chiara Hotel (hotels in Venice look like hovels, but are pretty decent on the inside).
Yes, the Venetian police also drive boats.
On the right hand side of this next photo (in red) we can see Hotel Canal.
Next we passed the Hotel Carlton & Grand Canal.
In the middle of the following picture we see the Church of San Simeone Piccolo, which was completed in 1738 (and on the right is the Hotel Antiche Figure).
The Fontego dei Turchi is the free market for Turkish merchants, where they could trade, rest and pray after the long trip from Constantinople.
To the right of the following phot we can see Venice's Hotel Marconi, which overlooks the Rialto bridge.
The famous Rialto bridge (the oldest crossing the grand canal - current version completed in 1591) with a vaporetti under it.
To the right of the following photo we can see the Hotel Locanda Ovidius, which is situated on the Grand Canal near Rialto bridge in Venice's San Palo district.
